 | Abstract :
Homo sapiens SNORD119 snoRNA. This C/D box snoRNA was discovered by Yang et al. (2006) with snoSeeker, and its expression verified by Northern blot. It is predicted to guide the 2'O-ribose methylation of 28S rRNA A4560. Methylation at this position was previously demonstrated.
SNORD119 could be identified in the SNRBP gene in mammals, lizard, X. tropicalis and zebrafish. In opossum, two paralogues reside in a tandem duplication of the SNRBP gene. SNORD119 presents sequence similarities with HBII-436, and might be its ancestor (see alignment in HBII-436 entry).
SNORD119 was independently cloned by Nahkuri et al. (2008). The size of the mature snoRNA from Northern blot is 70nt, suggesting that the terminal stem shown on the Alignment figure is trimmed during processing. These authors noted the duplication of the SNORD119 sequence in the opossum genome, and suggested that one copy is the ancestor of the HBII-52 cluster.
