Abstract : Homo sapiens C/D box snoRNA U82. This snoRNA was characterized in an intron in the nucleolin gene by Rebane and Metspalu (1999), and its expression in HeLa cells verified by Northern blot. It was independently cloned by H. Zhou and L.H. Qu and named Z25 (GenBank AJ010666). U82 is predicted to guide the 2'O-ribose methylation of 18S rRNA A1678. U82 shares the same host gene with the C/D box snoRNAs U20 and the H/ACA snoRNA U23. This snoRNA should not be confused with the U82 described in human and cow by Duga et al. (2000) in the RPL3 gene (GenBank AJ238852 and AJ238851). The expression of this putative snoRNA could not be confirmed by Northern blot.
