Abstract : Homo sapiens C/D box snoRNA U83. This snoRNA was sequenced from a cDNA library of human snoRNAs by Jady and Kiss (2000). U83 has no identified RNA target, although it can guide the methylation of an artificial substrate. It resides in the nucleolar fraction, but, from sedimentation analysis, it is not associated with pre-ribosomal particules. U83 and U84 share the same host gene. U83 has no sequence similarity with the snoRNAs U83A and U83B characterized by Duga et al. (2000). U83 (SNORD117) should not be confused with HBII-108B (SNORD19B), which is incorrectly nammed SNORD117 in Yang et al. (2006) and GenBank file AM413023.
